Build real networks on your own computer.
netplex runs real routers, switches and firewalls in your browser. Draw your network, press play, and it works like the real thing.
What makes netplex easy.
No more fixing permissions.
Copy an image in and it simply works. netplex gives every file the right ownership and access on its own, so you never open an SSH session just to run a fix-up script again.
Drop it in. Walk away.
Copy an image into the uploads folder - over SCP, SFTP or straight onto the disk. Seconds after it lands, netplex recognises it, files it in your Library and gets it ready to use. No scan button, no hunting for settings. And if something can't be imported, it tells you why, in plain words.
Built on tools engineers already trust.
Inside, netplex uses well-known free tools: QEMU and KVM to run virtual routers, Docker to run small containers, and Open vSwitch (a virtual network switch) for every cable. Solid at the core - everything we added sits on top.
Draw your network the way you like.
Drag, drop and connect. Every device is a clean Halo card with its own icon inside, in the accent colour you pick. Choose straight, curved or right-angled links, tidy everything with one-click auto-layout, add notes and shapes, then switch to presentation mode and draw on your lab while you explain it.
See your network talk.
Watch a cable glow the moment two routers start talking (for example OSPF or LLDP messages). Pick the protocols you care about - CDP, LLDP, BGP, STP and around sixty more, each in its own colour - and let the rest stay quiet. It's the quickest way to see what your network is really doing.
Make the network slow or flaky on purpose.
Add delay, lost packets or a speed limit to any cable - while it runs. Turn a perfect lab into a slow, busy link in seconds and see how your design copes.
Start building in minutes. No licences needed.
FRR routers, VyOS, Open vSwitch, Nokia SR Linux and Alpine hosts are one click away. Drag one onto the canvas and netplex fetches it for you the first time you use it. Bring your own vendor images whenever you're ready.
Every lab, safely in git.
netplex can back your lab - topology and device configs - up to a git remote you own (GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or your own server). Compare any two versions side by side and roll back with one click.
Let your AI assistant lend a hand.
netplex works with MCP, the common way AI assistants control other apps. Connect an MCP-compatible assistant such as Claude Code and ask it to build a lab, start devices, run commands or check that routing has settled - with read-only mode and confirmations keeping you firmly in control.
And the little things: consoles open right in your browser, packet captures stream live, and netplex keeps working with no internet at all.
Things you won't find
in other network labs.
Wireshark, right in your browser.
Click any cable and watch the packets go by, inside netplex. Open any packet to see what is in it. Nothing to install on your own computer.
Packet list: every plan · full Wireshark window: Professional
Freeze a moment. Branch from it.
Save a freeze point of the whole lab, every device at once. Later, go back to it - or start a brand new lab from that exact moment and try a different idea.
Professional
Push your own code.
One command on your laptop turns your project folder into a device on the canvas. It also works from a VS Code task or a git commit. No build server needed.
Every plan · 1 image on Associate, 10 on Professional
Watch the AI work.
When your AI assistant changes something, a strip at the top says what it did, and the device it touched flashes on the canvas. You always see what it is doing.
Every plan
Network Scanner.
Drop a scanner into your lab. It finds every device and its open ports, so you can check that your firewall really blocks what it should.
Professional
Take your lab to your own tools.
Download your lab as an SSH config, a hosts file or a Nornir inventory - or as a draw.io, Mermaid or Graphviz diagram.
Every plan
And more: backups and restore, desktops in your browser, cables you can add while the lab runs. See everything netplex does →
Run the gear you actually ship.
netplex runs the real software from Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Palo Alto and more - the same software that runs on real network gear, using images you supply yourself. It has hundreds of ready-made device profiles, and netplex fixes common image problems for you when you upload.
One lab, more than one machine.
Spread one lab across more than one machine: 2 hosts on Professional, up to 4 on Architect. The hosts' virtual switches are joined by VXLAN inside an encrypted WireGuard tunnel, transparent to the emulated devices.
Cluster (multi-host labs) is in beta.
- Each node goes to the least-busy host with room for it - or pin it to a host yourself
- Outgrow a single box without buying a bigger server
- A small marker on each node shows which host it runs on and whether that host is healthy
The link doesn't care which worker a node lives on.
Present your network while it runs.
Present a design, demonstrate a failure, and explain the fix - on the real, running topology, not a static slide. Built for consultants, trainers and network engineers walking a room through a design.
- Laser pointer, pen, highlighter, arrow, box, oval, spotlight and eraser tools
- Full undo/redo - annotate live without fear of a mistake
A live, running topology - presented, not a screenshot.
Free to start - the Associate tier has no node limit.
netplex is free to start. The drawing canvas, the device consoles, packet capture and the REST API (for your own scripts; API keys are read-only below Architect) are all included. The Associate tier runs one lab at a time.
- Modern React canvas + live terminal
- Per-node snapshots + git backup to a remote you own
- A full API and command-line tool for your own scripts
- See the packets on any cable, live (Wireshark)
- Slow down or break any cable on purpose (presets free; custom numbers on Professional)
- Free tier needs no licence key
Professional adds custom link numbers, snapshots, traffic generation, drift detection and presentation mode. Coming from EVE-NG, GNS3 or Containerlab? See exactly how we compare →
See only the protocols
you care about.
Search for CDP, LLDP, IS-IS or VRRP, pick it, and just those protocols light up on your links - each in its own colour. Try it right here: search for a protocol or tap one below, and watch the link light up only for what you picked. How the filter works →
Your laptop, your PC - or a server in your rack.
Runs on your own x86-64 Linux machine. Intel or AMD only - ARM machines (Apple Silicon Macs, Graviton, Ampere, Raspberry Pi) are not supported.
Free really means free.
Associate is the whole engine - no node limit, no time bomb, no card required.
Free during beta.
No payment, no card, no node limit. Pricing will be announced later.
- No node limit - only your own hardware
- Runs QEMU, Docker, LXC, MicroVM, namespace, Dynamips and IOL devices
- Console access and browser-native packet capture
- Full REST API and command line

Bring your existing labs.
Already use EVE-NG or GNS3? Import your labs in one click. Device configs, positions and cables come across, so moving over takes minutes.
Thank you to the tools that came first.

netplex. exists because of the people who came before us. Thank you to the network emulators that taught a generation of engineers to build labs on their own machines, and to the open-source projects netplex. runs on every day.

Built by network engineers,
for network engineers.
netplex. is designed and built in Australia by people who lived inside EVE-NG and GNS3 for years - and got tired of logging in to the server just to fix file permissions. Every decision is made by engineers who use it daily, not a marketing department.
Start practising on real network gear today.
Import your existing lab, start on the free Associate tier, and never logging in to the server just to fix file permissions again.
